illiam James College honored its 2018 graduates at commencement ceremonies on Sunday, June 3, at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. Benaree Wiley, principal of the Wiley Group, delivered the 38th commencement address, and she and three other distinguished community leaders received Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees. Wiley, who was raised in segregated Washington D.C. and celebrated the passage of Brown v. Board of Education with her father when she was very young, went on to graduate from Howard University with a BA and Harvard Business School with an MBA. Her role at The Wiley Group and as board director for Dreyfus Mutual Funds, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and CBIZ, along with her work for Dress for Success Boston, Partners Continuing Care, the Black Philanthropy Fund, The Efficacy Institute, and Howard University, have cemented her reputation as an authority on leadership, diversity, and professional development. 鈥淲e were honored to be the beneficiaries of her wisdom and perspective at this important milestone for our students,鈥 said President Nicholas Covino. The College also honored Reverend Dr. Ray Hammond and his wife, Reverend Dr. Gloria White-Hammond, founders of the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Boston in 1989. Reverend Dr. Ray Hammond is also the Chairman and co-Founder of Ten Point Coalition, as well as Executive Director of Bethel鈥檚 Generation Excel program; Executive Committee Member of Black Ministerial Alliance; Chair of the Boston Opportunity Agenda; and a member of the Strategy Team for the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization. Reverend Dr. Gloria White-Hammond co- founded My Sister鈥檚 Keeper, which partners with women in the Sudan in the reconciliation and reconstruction of their communities. She sits on the Board of Trustees of Brigham and Women鈥檚 Hospital, the Board of Overseers for the Tufts University College for Community and Public Service, and the Board of Christian Solidarity International (Zurich). The College also honored one of its own鈥 Ethan Pollack, PhD, who joined the William James faculty in 1978, and who is a member of the American Psychological Association鈥檚 Board of Directors Standing Hearing Panel. He has dedicated his career to the administration of clinical services to children, adolescents, couples, and families, and has long held an interest in and published articles on ethics. William James is grateful for the extraordinary wisdom and vision of its honorary degree recipients and congratulates its 2018 graduates.
