This course provides students with a comprehensive overview of the structure and function of the central nervous system. Neurons, neuronal communication, and the major sensory, motor, and integrative neural systems of the human brain will be covered, as well as the neural underpinnings of various higher-order cognitive functioning, such as attention, executive functioning, language, memory, and emotions. Foundational information will be integrated with cases to understand the multiple biological bases of behavior, such as neural, physiological, and anatomical. In vivo techniques for examining the brain鈥檚 structure and function is also addressed from both clinical and research perspectives.
